Everyone on City Island comes and goes by one bridge and one main avenue.
City Island Avenue runs the length of the island. Restaurants, shops and marinas line it, and short side streets of houses run off it down to the water. On a warm weekend the island fills with visitors, and all of that traffic uses the same bridge. There is very little spare room for guest parking, so a few cars waiting to be parked can start to hold up the traffic behind them. The drop-off has to be short and each car has to leave the avenue quickly.

Restaurants at the end of the avenue
Some of the island’s best-known seafood restaurants sit at the southern tip, where City Island Avenue ends. Traffic cannot continue past them, so we plan exactly where arriving and departing cars will turn around.
House parties on the side streets
The residential streets off City Island Avenue are narrow and already lined with residents’ cars. Valet can make a house party workable there, as long as guest cars have somewhere to go once they leave the curb.
