How funeral valet works at a funeral home or church

Uniformed attendants take cars as the family and guests arrive, keep room for the hearse, and bring cars back at a steady pace when the funeral director is ready.

Planning around the funeral home or church

We plan the day around the property: where the hearse will wait, where the family and guests step out, where their cars go, and how far that parking is from the entrance. If the family’s cars should be handled first or kept together for the procession, say so and we’ll plan it ahead of time.

Funeral homes and churches are set up differently. A funeral home often has a covered drop-off with a lot nearby. A church may have only a narrow drive or the street out front. Tell us which one you have, because the plan changes with it.

Our job is the cars, not the service. A supervisor is on every job and coordinates timing with the funeral director.

What to send us

Send the address, the date and service time, and whether it’s a funeral home or a church. Tell us where the hearse will stop, whether there is a lot, and who on site knows the order of cars for the procession.

Give us a realistic count of the cars you expect. A small service and a full church need different crews. If people will be arriving late from work, say so, since a second wave of arrivals changes the plan.

Arrival and departure

Arrivals tend to be spread out. Departure is harder, because most people leave at the same moment. We plan how cars come back a few at a time, so a narrow street or a small lot doesn’t jam and the procession can form without cars in the way.

If a repast or reception follows at a second address, mention it when you first reach out. Guests arriving at the second address make a second arrival, and we plan for it separately.

How attendants work with guests

Attendants take each car and bring it back when it’s needed. They keep their voices low during the service, and any questions from the funeral director go to the supervisor.

Older relatives

If older relatives need to be dropped right at the entrance or have their cars brought back first, tell us and we’ll build it into the plan.
